His professional goal is to share his love of the Game with others so they can experience the fulfillment this sport has brought to him.
Joshua Lennie – Golf Course Superintendent
Joshua Lennie, a dedicated and innovative leader with a one-of-a-kind background. His career began on a very different field—as a professional soccer player who made his professional debut at age 16. After nearly a decade in the sport, he transitioned into coaching moving to America to coach at the Connecticut football club and Division One soccer at Quinnipiac University, where he began volunteering with the grounds crew after the day practice. This introduction to turf sparked a new career path, eventually leading him to pursue groundskeeping full-time.
Over the years, he pursued a rigorous education in turf management, culminating with a diploma from UMass in turf management, this intensive course covers all aspects of turf such as chemistry, biology, soil sciences, pathology, and entomology to understand the science behind keeping golf courses healthy and vibrant. Joshua brings a science-driven approach to Edgewood, prioritizing sustainability as he implements changes to enhance the course’s condition and playability.
With experience from top courses across the region, he joins Edgewood with a clear vision to elevate our course to new standards. During his time at both Hop Meadow Country Club and Rockledge Golf Course, a municipal course, he led several successful projects, developing skills and ideas he’s excited to bring to Edgewood. At Edgewood, his goals are ambitious: he’s committed to enhancing playability, optimizing drainage, and implementing sustainable practices that align with best management practices (BMPs). He believes that course health goes beyond turf—it’s about fostering an ecosystem where wildlife, like birds and bees, can thrive. To support this vision, he plans to add pollinator-friendly plants, and manage pests naturally with eco-friendly solutions.
Another focus is maintaining course quality through seasonal changes. Joshua plans to improve our greens by implementing a thorough top dressing program for the coming season. His irrigation improvements and intermediate cuts around holes will enhance course health and add visual appeal, framing each hole beautifully.
Behind his technical expertise are core values—trust, respect, and teamwork—that drive his leadership style. As a hands-on leader, he doesn’t ask his team to do anything he wouldn’t do himself. His work ethic and commitment to building a respectful, collaborative environment have made a strong impression on everyone at Edgewood.
